INTEGRATED HIGH SPEED ROAD TEST EQUIPMENT PART 2 : SEMI-AUTOMATED PAVEMENT DISTRESS MAPPING SYSTEM
This report describes Alberta Transportation and Utilities' development of a semi-automated system for the collection, recording and analysis of pavement distress. A single video camera is used to record the pavement surface on video tape. The tape is returned to a post-processing station where selective video frames are transferred to laserdisk storage. Using image processing software, operators may measure areas of distress and record these measurements into a database associated with the images. This report summarizes the operation of the system since installation. The report also recommends further investigation into fully automated distress mapping systems. (Author/TRRL )
