TELEPORTS AND INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE . TELEMATICS. TRANSPORTATION AND SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT. PROCEEDINGS OF AN INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ORGANIZED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CENTER FOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING, DELFT UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, HELD IN THE NETHERLANDS, APRIL 14-15, 1988
There is growing world wide recognition of teleports as the communication and data acquiring infrastructure for business, industrial, product marketing, financial, technological and public services information. The range of services encompasses that of regional and economic planning data, stock control, real estate develomemnt, manufacturing, consumer distribution and transport information, and health and environment care. Within this context Teleport Amsterdam is introduced here, and a brief description is given of the new requirements that have to be met by the business sector of the new "information society". The significance of Teleport Amsterdam within this context is discussed, in particular in its relation to the development of the spatial economic structure in and around the city. Some of the conclusions that can be drawn as to the influence of teleports as information ports on the physical transport of people and goods, and of information, are adressed. (Author/TRRL)
