PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN STOCKHOLM: 50% OF JOURNEYS IN THE CONURBATION
The fundamental role in the market played by public transport in Stockholm can be attributed mainly to the lasting effect of policies determined by the County. It is also due to the competence of the operator undertaking which, in order to turn these policies into reality, has developed service quality and integration between the different modes of public transport, just as it has researched into environmental protection and productivity. Linked to a single local authority is a sole undertaking in charge of metro and buses, as well as commuter trains and regional travel. In Stockholm, perhaps more than anywhere else, the levels attained by public transport are an accurate reflection of the quality of life and an advanced society.
