COMPARATIVE RESEARCH ON THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOUR OF CONCRETE BLOCKS: LOAD WITH THE TUD WHEEL TRACKING DEVICE
VERGELIJKEND ONDERZOEK NAAR HET STRUCTUREEL GEDRAG VAN BETONSTRAATSTENEN: BELASTING MET HET TUD-WIELSPOORAPPARAAT
To determine the structural behaviour of concrete block pavements a test has been carried out, in which four differently structured concrete block pavements have been subjected to simulated loads, imposed by the wheel tracking device of the Delft University of Technology (The TUD wheel tracking device). On the basis of measurements with the falling-weight deflectometer the elastic and plastic deformation behaviour of the four pavement types has been analysed with the aid of the finite element program "ICES STRUDL". The plastic deformation behaviour (rutting) calculated in this way has been compared with the rutting measured by means of levelling, which showed a reasonable correspondence. Eventually the extrapolation of the wheel tracking device load is discussed. The TUD wheel tracking device seems to be a serviceable apparatus for verifying the structural behaviour (in particular rutting) of pavement constructions predicted on the basis of theoretical model development.
