WEATHER FORECASTS AS A BASE FOR THE SELECTION OF THE ADRIATIC MOTORWAY ALIGNMENTS
METEOROLOSKA PODLOGA ZA ODABIR TRASA JADRANSKE AUTOCESTE
Analyzing relevant meteorological parameters (precipitation, fog, wind and low temperature), the planned motorway alignments which link the inland of croatia with the adriatic sea have been compared with the planned adriatic motorway alignment. Meteorological conditions on road alignments in the continental part of Croatia do not differ significantly, but the alignment across Titova Korenica is slightly more favourable. However, due to frequent snow and fog in the hinterland, the coastal variant of the Adriatic Motorway is more suitable from the meteorological point of view. Wind can pose a problem on this alignment which should be taken into account when designing the road. (TRRL)
