AUTOMATIC DREDGING CONTROLS DESIGNED FOR HOPPER DREDGES
Fully automatic operation of the side trailing pipes and automatic hopper loading of a hopper dredge is described. Features of the system include the upclamping of the pipe safety locks, the unlatching of the gantries at the correct time and operation of the appropriate speed of each winch at all times. The system also includes the capability to hold the pipe horizontal at "trunnion down" position and to start the dredge pump and run it at a predetermined speed with the overboard discharge valve open.
