CALCULATION METHOD OF SHAFT ALIGNMENT IN RELATION TO OIL FILM FORMATION ON STERNTUBE BEARINGS
With the recent increase in ships' size and power ratings, the propeller shaft line's sterntube bearings are subject to a greater burden which poses the problem of ensuring an adequate bearing performance. Possible damage to the bearings is mainly caused by a lack of oil film that results from any misalignment of the propeller shaft. To determine this damage and to rationalize the bearings design the authors have developed a calculation method for determining the oil film formation as a function of shaft alignment and velocity of shaft revolutions.
