SILICA FUME CONCRETE IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
The significant benefits and potential of silica fume concrete (SFC) are noted, and its development for a variety of applications in Australia is described. Papers presented at the Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA) Conference on Supplementary Cementing Materials in Sydney, in 1988, highlighted these aspects. Condensed silica fume properties are tabulated and discussed, as well as mix proportions of SF. Field trials are described, and it is noted that significant opportunities exist for SFC. Various construction projects in Melbourne are described. Mix design and production control are discussed.
