TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS FOR A MAJOR GREYHOUND RACING COMPLEX

This article describes the development of a wagering facility in Wisconsin, and the attendant transportation system improvements to cater to the facility. Projections of expected attendance were developed using demographics, primary markets were identified, as well as traffic origins. Factors used in the traffic analysis are listed, and the development of projected traffic flow routing diagrams is described. The recommended transportation system improvements are set forth. To speed progress, Wisconsin Department of Transportation handled the project under a permit procedure as opposed to the normal facilities development procedure. Highlights of the improvement plan are noted. The techinical challenges posed by the improvements are noted, as well as the fast paced schedule and the coordination efforts involved.
