TROUBLE-SHOOTING: MAINTENANCE
On the basis of observations, six basic areas which have been considered the most pervasive causes of failure (charged to an omission of routine inspection and analysis) have been selected for preventive maintenance. Faltering clutches for example offer prebreakdown clues that can be easily discovered. Fraying on the outer cover of V-belts, or almost imperecptivle vibrations in roller chain drives, are first signs of failures or equipment mis-applications. Diesel engine maintenance, lubrication system practice, and centrifugal pump upkeep all require continuous trouble-shooting programs. Trouble-shooting related to clutches, diesels, roller chain drives, V-belt drives, lube programs, centrifugal pumps, and shop safety are detailed.
