ROADS THAT TALK
The author describes Intelligent Vehicle/Highway Systems (IVHS) and their applications to our highway systems and automobile travellers. IVHS areas explained include the following: traffic management systems; traveller information systems; commercial vehicle systems; and vehicle control systems. Each category includes systems that would perform transportation functions in their own right. They could also be linked together into a larger system in which each one complemented the other.
