DELAYS AND CONFLICTS AT ONE LANE BRIDGES

One lane bridges and other bottlenecks incur costs as a result of delays, and the accidents which may occur because of conflicts. A computer simulation combined with specialised methods of data analysis has produced comprehensive tables as a foundation for cost estimation. The fact that traffic flow rate is variable has been accommodated by integration over flow rate distributions. A main purpose of this paper is to exhibit a methodology. Suggestions are made for improved future work on the bottleneck problem. (Author/TRRL)
