METRICATION
This presentation which pertains to dimension and distances, examines the history of U.S. efforts toward metrication and discusses the methods of defining the degree of curve of a circular curve. The numerical value of the radius of a circular curve is given. Two tables are presented of curves physically conrresponding on the ground as defined by their degree of curve; one table contains the degree of curve in the metric system of measurement corresponding to the degree of curve in the foot system, and the other table contains the degree of curve in the foot system of measurement corresponding to the degree of curve in the metric system. Whenever the metric system of measurement is used, each degree of curve used in the highway alignment would have a finite ending as 1, 2.2, 13 13 and so forth. Consequences of using the radius to define a circular curve instead of its degree are discussed. A table is presented which records minimum radius and maximum degree of curve.
