EXPERIENCES OBTAINED USING PRESSURE METERS TO DETERMINE SOIL DENSITY AND DEGREE OF COMPACTION
ERFARENHETER VID BESTAENMING AV LAGNINGSTAETHET OCH PACKNINGSGRAD MED PRESSIOMETER
Allowable average ground pressures for certain soils can be determined if preconsolidation pressures, compressibilities and bearing capacities are known. A pressure meter was found to be an excellent aid to soil compaction for a large shipping terminal project. It gave more reliable results than the conventional Proctor method which was also used. Results could be evaluated directly on the site and bearing capacity and soil settlement accurately calculated for true loads on the fill. /TRRL/
