THE SAFETY-BELT SYNDROME

HET VEILIGHEIDSRIEM-SYNDROOM

In a literature review it is stated that the safety belt syndrome happens in approximately 0.2-0.5% of persons involved in a vehicle accident and wearing safety-belts. This percentage, which is already low, can be decreased still further if the belts are worn correctly. The aim of this study is to describe the course of an accident, the effectiveness of safety belts in an accident and the possibility of injuries being caused by safety belts. A summary of published articles on the medical aspects of this subject is presented. /TRRL/
