LONDON TRAFFIC MONITORING REPORT FOR 1988

This report is the third in the Department of Transport (DTp) series of annual reports summarising London traffic. Since the previous report, the DTp has published the results of the 7th survey of traffic speeds in the inner area of London (see IRRD 821895), and a half yearly update of the results from automatic traffic counters in a report entitled Traffic levels at selected sites in London first half of 1988', published in 1989. The statistics presented in this statistics bulletin, are derived from the DTp's database of London traffic information which includes data from the Department's own core and rotating traffic census in London and data generated by the traffic monitoring programme. Three sections cover: (1) traffic speeds in London 1968-1988; (2) traffic movements across keylines; and (3) automatic traffic counters. The survey methodology is presented in three appendices: (a) speed surveys; (b) cordon and screen line traffic counts; and (c) automatic traffic counters. (TRRL)
