EXETER . PROCEEDINGS FROM THE PARK AND RIDE WORKSHOP, HERTFORD COLLEGE, OXFORD, JUNE 27 1990

This article describes the park and ride scheme in Exeter. Details of the policy behind site selection, at the Matford Business Park, and at the Sowton Industrial Estate are discussed briefly, as is the cost of their construction. The bus service provided is mainly by mini bus, and this uses the least congested roads of the old Exeter Bypass and Pinhoe Road, and links through the city centre to the Matford Park and Ride site. Bus routes are being introduced along the main radials, particularly at junctions, to increase the attractiveness of the service. Additional park and ride services also operate on Saturdays in the Christmas period from the grounds of the Crown Courts, Exeter College and County Hall. Further sites are required to the North of the city and at Pinhoe. Details of the parking charges for all car parks in the city are outlined, as is the cost of providing such services and details of bus service, service levels and fares. Consumer attitudes have not been monitored, however statistics show that use has increased gradually. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 832069.
