ASSESSING POSTURAL DISCOMFORT IN BUS DRIVERS AND GOODS VEHICLE DRIVERS. PROCEEDINGS - 11TH WORLD CONGRESS OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR ACCIDENT AND TRAFFIC MEDICINE, DUBROVNIK, 24-28 MAY 1988
The objective of this study is to assess postural discomfort in different parts of the body in bus and lorry drivers in order to see how these affect their health. 16 drivers were tested by means of the method described by corlet and Bishop. The assessment of discomfort represents a major indicator of the nonphysiologic body posture which is then reflected in a kind of a disease or impairment of health condition or ultimately in the disease of the locomotor system. An active rest following two to four hours of driving should be planned in order to prevent the onset of conditions that may result in a disease of those parts of the body which are exposed to an exceptional strain while driving. The ergonomic improvements of a driver's seat should be proposed and exposure to vibrations should be reduced. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 830163.
