NATURAL AND WASTE MATERIAL - A CHANCE FOR COMPETITION? UNBOUND AGGREGATES IN ROADS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM, APRIL 11-13, 1989

In road construction unbound aggregates are used for load bearing. The mode of use and the behaviour of these materials is assured by many scientific reports as well as by information from sites. Nowadays in the Federal Republic of Germany all kinds of building and road rubbish are recycled in special plants. There is a functioning quality control for natural and recycled material. Differences exist in frequency of control and in problems of pollution. These aspects are illustrated and discussed in relation to the possibility of recycled material entering into competition with natural material. Comparisons of the costs of various recycled materials and natural aggregates (gravel with sand or crushed gravel with chippings and sand) is also provided. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 827698.
