MEDIAN BARRIERS SUCCESSFUL
Details are given of reinforced concrete median barriers installed on sections of the Hull road and Auckland motorways. The "New Jersey" profile was selected by the Ministry of Works and Development as having the best established record in minimising damage to out of control vehicles and injury to their occupants. The barrier is 2ft wide at the base with a height above the road surface level of 2 ft 8 in. Information recently released by the Ministry of Transport reports a significant reduction in the number of serious accidents. /TRRL/
