SEISMIC INVESTIGATIONS TO DETERMINE ROCK MASS CONDITIONS
SEISMISKA UNDERSOEKNINGAR FOER BESTAEMNING AV BERGFOERHAALLANDEN
A short description is given of the seismic refraction method commonly used for prospecting rock masses suitable for underground installations. The seismic velocity in various soils and rocks is listed both for solid and fissured rocks. In combination with an analysis of drilled rock cores the seismic method gives an indication of the rock mass quality. The disadvantage of this method is that, at present, horizontal or almost horizontal layers of weaker quality cannot be discovered. /TRRL/
