THE PROJECT TEAM PARADOX
The Japanese challenge to the automotive industry has created what Chrysler refers to as an "engineering renaissance," a renaissance which has been aided by the joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Awareness of the Japanese approach to the automotive industry has resulted in an adaptive approach by Chrysler, in which the "Chrysler Platform Organization" has endeavored to emulate strategies employed by Mitsubishi. Steps they have taken include a limitation of teams in order to achieve efficiency of skill, focussing attention on the complete vehicle, ensuring a cross-platform sharing of expertise, and including the suppliers as well as the internal players. The LH mid-size platform represents Chrysler's first fully-developed project-team vehicle.
