ATTENUATOR MANAGEMENT MAY REDUCE TORT EXPOSURE
An innovative attenuator repair and maintenance program has been instituted and executed in Georgia. The program provides for detailed inventory of every attenuator installed on interstates, as well as quick reporting and repairing of damaged, repaired or upgraded systems after an impact. The system ensures that the department is doing everything possible to protect the driving public, and provides documentation of the departments performance. This documentation may prove helpful in protecting the department against future litigation. The Georgia Department of Transportation's periodic inspection of attenuators on interstate highways is described.
