THE EFFECT OF VIBRATION ON THE PULL-OUT RESISTANCE OF REINFORCEMENTS IN SOIL

This Report presents results of pull-out tests performed on plane strips of galvanised mild steel embedded in both well graded and uniformly graded soil. Tests were performed under both static and dynamic loading conditions. The pull-out resistance of the reinforcements was reduced by the dynamic stresses generated by vibration. The reduction in pull-out resistance correlated well with the reduction in normal stress caused by the stress waves generated by a vibrating plate compactor. The percentage reduction in pull-out resistance was similar for tests performed in both the well graded and uniformly graded soils.
