SPECIFICATION FOR TOWING CONNECTIONS FOR TRAILERS OF UP TO 5000 KG GROSS MASS
This revision of this British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Automobile Standards Committee. It was first published in 1964 and was based upon data sheet SMMT 157 : 1962 of the Society of Motor manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). It supersedes the 1964 edition which is withdrawn. This British Standard specifies requirements for a towing jaw, towing hook, drawbar eye and lug and forecarriage pins for use in connections between a towing vehicle and a trailer of up to either 3500 kg or 5000 kg gross mass. The revison has been undertaken to show dimensions as metric values, but without affecting interchangeability, and to include a fatigue test to ensure the durability of the towing connections and tests to prove the effectiveness of locking devices.
