BS 5328 - THE FUTURE FOR CONCRETE SPECIFICATION

The author outlines revisions planned for BS 5328 (see IRRD 256614) which will mean significant changes for specifiers, users and producers of concrete. The purpose of the revision is to provide compatibility between BS 8110 (see IRRD 285403-4 and 291435) and BS 5328, to provide the main specification document for concrete in the lead up to 1992, provide a base reference document when draft Eurostandard ENV 206 Concrete is tried out in the UK and to use as a base in negotiations on Eurostandard ENV 206. Many aspects remain unchanged but those being revised are covered including guidance on the alkali-silica reaction, chloride content of concrete, materials, concrete mixes, provision of information, compliance, contractual matters and Quality Assurance. BS 5328 will be published in four parts - guide to the specification of concrete, methods of specifying concrete mixes, specification for the production of concrete and specification for the sampling, testing and compliance of concrete.
