BRIDGET - A COST ESTIMATING SUITE FOR HIGHWAY STRUCTURES

The Scottish Development's Chief Road Engineer has recently issued BRIDGET, a micro based software package for estimating the cost of bridges and box structures. The package has been designed in 2 modes to assist bridge designers with cost estimating at both the route selection and technical approval stages of the design process. It can at present accommodate commonly utilized bridge forms and concrete box structures. The 1989 database comprises cost data on 130 bridges and 40 box structures, which will be updated on an annual basis. The Feasibility Estimate Mode is intended for use at route selection stage and is based on a parametric models approach. The Preliminary Estimate Mode is for use at structure technical approval stage; this mode incorporates and extends the cost models developed by the Construction Management Research Unit at Dundee University. It is intended that BRIDGET will be used for preparing estimates for such structures on all future trunk road schemes in Scotland.
