BLASTING THE "S" OUT OF INTERSTATE
Construction is now under way to improve 3 1/2 miles of 6-lane I-75 in Covington, Kentucky. The 2 1/2-year project will straighten a notorious S-curve to improve safety on the northbound downhill lanes, and add a climbing lane for southbound trucks. Small two- and three-a-day blasts break up 1.7 million yards of shale and limestone for 120-ft cuts to clear the way for the realignment. Further details of the construction are provided in this article.
