NEW LINE FLOWS GAS FROM PROLIFIC ARKOMA BASIN TO EASTERN U.S.
Construction of a 221-mile, 42- and 36-in. natural gas pipeline was recently completed. Known as Line AC, it allows gas delivery from the Arkoma basin of Oklahoma to eastern and midwestern U.S. markets. Construction of Line AC surmounted significant environmental and engineering obstacles. This article traces the history of Line AC from its conception in 1986 to its startup on November 1, 1990, including details of its construction which was accomplished by Arkla Energy Resources (AER), a division of Arkla Inc., Shreveport, Louisiana. The pipeline crosses environmentally sensitive areas in Oklahoma and Arkansas. A two-page insert with this article discusses Arkla's environmental efforts for which Arkla received national recognition.
