TO EXAMINE THE FUTURE OF OUR NATION'S INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS. HEARINGS BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND TRANSPORTATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 101ST CONGRESS, 2ND SESSION

The subject of these hearings is the future of the Nation's infrastructure needs. From 1960 to 1985, total public spending on infrastructure dropped from 3.6% of the GNP to 2.6%. The relative share of public works spending at all levels of government declined from nearly 20% of total expenditures in 1950 to less than 7% in 1984. The Federal share of infrastructure spending declined from 41% in 1981 to 34.5% in 1986. These hearings examine this decline in investment and its impact on the nation's infrastructure systems and the economy. Included are testimony, prepared statements submitted by members of Congress, prepared statements of witnesses, submissions for the record, and additions to the record.
