JAPANESE TANKER-BUILDING FACILITIES AND METHODS BEING IMPROVED BY NEW TECHNIQUES
The many tankers ordered and completed before the 1973 oil crisis have adversely affected the shipbuilding industry and led to a global overtonnage of vessels. Japan is dealing with this problem on a long-term basis by improving shipbuilding techniques and tanker technology. The author examines treads in the design of ship hulls, attempts to automate ships, and describes in detail Japan's tanker-building faclities and construction methods.
