ROADS FOR THE FUTURE? TRANSPORT 2000'S EVIDENCE TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS SELECT COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT INQUIRY INTO ROADS FOR THE FUTURE, MAY 1989

The report is presented in the following sections: summary; strategy (including government policy, environment, safety congestion, strategic planning and experience abroad); forecasts of demand (including policy assumptions, land use planning and the impact of the Channel Tunnel); evaluation of schemes (including cost benefit analysis, monitoring of the road network); finance; administration, management and the planning timetable. Four appendices deal with rail freight and the Channel Tunnel, the Quorn-Mountsorrel bypass on the A6, the effects of new road building on transport costs (Friends of the Earth), and private funding for roads.
