BUILD AND CHARTER OF THE SEALIFT TANKERS
The construction of nine 25,000 DWT clean product tankers to the technical requirements of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) for bareboat charter by MSC has focussed attention on this method of acquisition of the shipping services required for national defense purposes. This paper briefly describes the "build and charter" process as applied to the nine tankers, the tankers themselves, and the potential of the "build and charter" technique for acquisition of other shipping services.
