INITIAL MODEL SPECIFICATION OF THE CLAMP PARKING MODEL. FIRST INTERIM REPORT TO BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL

During 1988, a successful pilot application of CLAMP (Computer based Local Area Model of Parking) was carried out. In April 1989, the Transport Studies Unit were commissioned by Birmingham City Council to carry out a fullscale application of the model. This interim report outlines the work in progress and highlights some important areas of future activity. The basic structure and approach of the core model is described, and is also documented in the paper given by Bradley, Goodwin, Layzell and Bates (see IRRD 810768). The core model for Birmingham will also contain a number of further developments. These developments will include: (1) increasing the scope and flexibility of the representation of model alternatives and level of service variables; (2) improved treatment of time of day and destination choice mechanisms; (3) improved representation of transport system and car park capacity contraints; and (4) the introduction of the capability to represent the spacial distribution of parking demand and car parking stock within the central area.
