IMAGE PROCESSING WITH A HYBRID SYSTEM: THE IDECS
The Image Discrimination, Enhancement and Combination System - IDECS/PDP data processing facility is described in both a system overview and in terms of each of the system elements. The analog-digital, near real-time to real-time, image processing system (in all its elemnts) is described, as well as the procedure for conducting various experiments through operator control. The IDECS is interfaced to a digital storage disc and a PDP-15/20 computer. The computer has 12K of 18 bit work memory with an access time of 800 nanoseconds; a processor with integer multiply and divide; a paper tape reader and punch; a card reader; and four Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) tape drives. Details are given of the interface, the IDECS processing unit and the instructions with which the computer controls the IDECS.
