This publication describes the activities of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) during 1988 and presents the resolutions and reports approved by the Council of Ministers of Transport during that year. The report is presented in three parts. Part One, ECMT Activities, contains 4 chapters: (I) General Transport Policy in Europe; (II) Activities in Particular Fields; (III) Economic Research and Documentation; and (IV) External Relations. Part Two, Trends in the Transport Sector 1970-1987, covers the general situation, freight transport, the use of the ECMT multilateral quota, passenger transport, road accidents, and traffic on the Rhine River. Part Three, Resolutions of the Council of Ministers of Transport and Reports Approved in 1988, contains the following: Resolution No. 64 on the more rapid introduction of leadfree petrol into Eurpoe; Resolution No. 65 on the shortcomings in important international piggyback transport links; Resolution No. 24 on railways; Resolution No. 54 concerning the fitting and wearing of seat belts on the rear seats of cars and safer transport of children and adults; Report on Financing Urban Public Transport; Report by the Committee for Road Traffic, Signs and Signals to the Council of Ministers; and Proposals for the adjustment of the multilateral quota as from 1989. There are five annexes: (I) ECMT Organization chart; (II) List of Officers of the ECMT; (III) List of Delegates at the Luxembourg and Paris Sessions; (IV) Resolution No. 893 (1988) (1) in reply to the 32nd and 33rd Annual Reports of the ECMT; and (V) Eurofima Report.
