SANTE FE ADAPTS LASER BEAM FOR BUILDING TRACKS IN BIG YARD
In constructing the new freight classification yard at Barstow, Calif., Santa Fe is using a laser beam in conjunction with the production tamper/liner for raising and lining the tracks to engineers' stakes. Also in use is a rig developed by Santa Fe for distributing ties on the subgrade to the desired spacing. Details of the split laser beam system in conjunction with the Plasser equipment is described.
