418-FT TOWERS SUPORT NEW CABLE-STAYED CROSSING
The article describes the construction of the Talmadge Memorial Bridge with a 1,100-ft main span and a clearance of 185 ft. in the international port city of Savannah, Georgia. Georgia's first cable-stayed bridge has a total length of 2,040 ft. Lengthy approaches of 2,605 ft to the north and 2,920 ft to the south give the project an overall length of 7,565 ft. The deck was cast-in-place using a balanced cantilever construction process. There are 36 pairs of cable stays on each tower. Details of the design and construction are summarized.
