EXPERIENCE IN MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF ALUMINUM RAILROAD ROLLING STOCK
ERFAHRUNGEN BEI UNTERHALT UND BETRIEB VON ALUMINIUM-SCHIENEN FAHRZEUGEN
Based on years of experience by the Swiss Federal Railways with aluminum passenger and freight trains, the material- related characteristics and types of repair of damaged cars, technical qualitications of repair personnel, equipment of the repair shops, and problems of storage of semifabricated products for repair purposes are discussed. It is stated that with well organized repair shops aluminum rolling stock can be maintained for periods of 20 to 30 years.
