CONTINUOUS-BEAM ANALYSIS FOR HIGHWAY BRIDGES
The paper presents an analysis procedure for symmetrical constant-EI (constant flexural stiffness) continuous beams based upon compatibility of joint deformations and the conjugate beam relationships. It is an efficient alternative to hand solution by moment distribution and also to conventional matrix methods of analysis, primarily because an extremely limited amount of information is required to implement a computer algorithm for the method. Closed form expressions for end moments in beams with three and four spans, subjected to typical concentrated or uniform loads are presented. The general formulation for the method provides a simple algorithm suitable for interactive microcomputer analysis of symmetrical, constant-EI continuous beams.
