VERTICAL CONVEX PARABOLIC TRANSITION CURVES FOR ORDINARY ROADS
SUI RACCORDI VERTICALI CONVESSI AD ARCO DI PARABOLA PER LE STRADE ORDINARIE
The second degree parabola is still the preferred transition curve for linking the various gradients in the vertical alignment of roads. This article presents some easily applied monograms for the rapid determination of minimum curve lengths in terms of the design speed of the road and the variations between the gradients to be joined. The aim of the study is to design curves which provide maximum visibility in terms of braking distances and overtaking manoeuvres, and the nomograms can be applied to single and dual carriageways. /TRRL/
