GAS-TURBINE/ELECTRIC CARGO PUMP DRIVE FOR PRODUCTS CARRIERS
Discusses gas turbine/electric cargo pump drives for product carriers. Requirements which must be considered when a cargo pump drive system is being designed and evaluated are given. Advantages of a gas turbine/electric cargo pump drive system include its simplicity and ease of operation, as well as its simple and economical installation, which has a high degree of flexibility, requiring a minimum of manning for running and maintenance. Normal operating procedures are described, and an economic comparison of a conventional system versus a gas turbine system is included.
