DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS WITH GARRETT'S 5000 HP 990 GAS TURBINE
Describes progress which has been achieved in developing an improved marine gas turbine for the U.S. Navy. Details of the turbine, regarding design requirements, power requirements, and features of the turbine, among others, are discussed in the article. The gearbox, made of lightweight aluminum, is described and its accessories are listed, and how this gearbox can be converted to a coupled or fixed shaft engine configuration is also briefly described.
