THE RAPID BUSWAY OR THE RAPID TRANSIT RAILROAD?
The author counters the recent arguments favoring the busway as an economical alternative to full-scale rapid rail transit. It is argued that bus operation introduces high labor costs and a subway-type busway in a center city could actually cost more than a rail subway in the same site. The costs of the Lindenwold line are analyzed and a fully equivalent busway operation is estimated.
