SOME ASPECTS OF THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF WELDS
QUELQUES ASPECTS DU COMPORTEMENT MECHANIQUE DES SOUDURES
A description is given of two of the main characteristics of the mechanical behavior of a weld. One is the possibility of brittle fracture initiated by different weld defects. These are enumerated and illustrated. Methods of determining the limits of the service life of such a welded assembly are explained. The second is the existence of internal stresses formed during the welding cycle. In service, they are superimposed on nominal stresses. Their measurements are illustrated on an example.
