DEVELOPMENT OF DEMAND RESPONSIVE PARATRANSIT SERVICES. FINAL REPORT
This report documents the work accomplished in the study and prescribes the recommended paratransit system for the Town of Huntington, in Suffolk County, New York. The objective of the study was to develop a plan for improving public transportation services within the Town of Huntington. The focus was on alleviating existing service deficiencies in the most cost-effective manner through use of integrated demand-responsive services, coordinated with the Town's fixed-route bus service known as Huntington Area Rapid Transit (HART). The main thrust of the study was to identify the potential users (elderly & handicapped, commuters) of paratransit services and to analyze use of private sector operation of new services. The study indicates the benefits of such services to the community. Basically, the report outlines the parameters for and sets in motion the implementation of such a service.
