This article describes a visit by french engineers to surface dressing construction sites in bavaria, 4th and 5th july, 1972. The surface dressings examined contained various binders: tar-vinyl, and 60/40 tar-bitumen and were laid on A number of state roads or on experimental stretches - various points were discussed, among others the periodic renewal of the surface dressings, various types of binders used, aggregates, surface dressing techniques etc. Special mention was made of the mixed tar-pitch bitumen binder for hot-coated materials, which is increasingly used because of its qualities that fulfil modern traffic requirements. /TRRL/
