COMPATIBILITY ON THE ROAD
KOMPATIBILITAET AUF DER STRASSE
The compatibility on the road is an important research area in respect to vehicle safety. The accident statistic shows two main groups of traffic participants who must be seen specifically under this point of view: the vehicle occupants and the pedestrians. For the pedestrians three means could reduce the injuries significantly: splitting of the traffic participants, education of participants, and measures on the vehicle. In the car to car collision, the following factors are important: the car masses, the impact velocity, the impact location and direction, the deformation characteristic and the structure of the car. Beside the differences of the vehicle of today, the occupant protection may be given by optimizing by the vehicle structure also at higher impact velocities and a higher mass ratio. All measures have to be judged from the protection criteria for the human. All humans who participate in the traffic, pedestrians and vehicle occupants, are in a compatible traffic situation, if the protection criteria are not exceeded.
