FIRST ELEMENTS OF A HIGHWAY CARD INDEX

PREMIERS ELEMENTS D'UN FICHIER DES ROUTES

This article describes the state of the art of the study conducted by the laboratoires des ponts et chaussees concerning the setra highway overall card index. Because of the large number of measurements obtained (deflection measurements in particular) during strengthening investigations or the analysis of some sections mentioned in the steering plan, and because of the development of highly efficient non-destructive testing equipment for the continuous investigation of slipperiness, evenness, transverse profile, it became necessary to use data processing techniques to handle and store all the data. Two card indexes are operational at the present time: a card index on deflections and additional information (20 000 km of measurements), and a card index on heavy traffic. Some details are given of the possibility of asking questions in real time from these card indexes. /TRRL/
