APPLICATION OF PRESTRESSING TO TIE RODS
LA MISE EN PRECONTRAINTE DES TIRANTS
The well known Anchorage technique has recently developed in a new direction with the use of prestressed rods anchored in the soil and utilized with retaining structures and floors. The use of these tie rods requires the knowledge of a number of main parameters: free length, applied stress, and of various phenomena such as instantaneous and differed behaviour of steel, multiple friction, losses of various origins, and the instantaneous and differed behaviour of sealing points in tension or relaxation. The cycle method, recently developed by soletanche, which is applied during prestressing, enables the behaviour of the rods to be evaluated and the difficulties discovered during the study of the various phenomena to be solved. In particular, it stresses the free length and the real values of experimental and final stresses. /TRRL/
